RE: FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SACKS DIRECTOR OF FAAN OVER APPOINTMENT IRREGULARITIES

RE:FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SACKS DIRECTOR OF FAAN OVER APPOINTMENT IRREGULARITIES

The attention of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has been drawn to a misleading news story published recently in some newspapers, alleging that the Honourable Minister of Aviation had sacked FAAN’s Director of Finance, Mr. Tochuku Bede Uchendu over irregularities in his appointment and the granting of unauthourised waivers worth over one billion naira by him.

The Authority hereby wishes to state that the story in question was not only false but also malicious as Mr. Uchendu’s appointment was neither irregular nor did he ever grant waiver to any FAAN customer, not to talk of waiver amounting to over one billion naira.

The Director of Finance of the Authority does not have the power to grant waiver to any customer. On his appointment, Mr. Uchendu was only asked to asked to wait for the conclusion of all formalities (due process). That process is still on-going.

We therefore urge members of the public to discountenance the said story.

FAAN advocates collaboration for African Airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will continue to play a leading role in advocating collaboration among aviation partners to address major challenges in development of the air transport sector in Africa.

Engr. Sale Dunoma, Managing Director of FAAN stated this at  the  53rd Airports Council International (ACI) Africa board meeting and Regional conference and exhibition taking place at Casablanca, Morocco 18 - 25 April 2015.

According to him, "the conference will certainly offer us an excellent opportunity to share our experiences and best practices in sustainable development as well as in airport safety and security".

Speaking further, Eng Dunoma stated that the introduction of the aviation portal, toll free call centres and the liberalisation of the aviation sector has stimulated awareness and growth in the sector.

"Nigerian airports are playing important international roles in linking  the most populous country in the African continent to the rest of the world, and the containment of the Ebola virus remains a shining example of a successful collaboration" added.

The theme of the conference which is "Collaboration for Safe, Secure and Sustainable Aviation in Africa" will address improvements in aviation safety and security in the light of new threats affecting the industry.

Angela Gittens, the Director-General of ACI worldwide,  dwelled on the benefits of collaboration within the industry from the perspective of the airports.

Earlier, while welcoming delegates, Pascal Komla, President of ACI Africa said with the event provided a unique opportunity for aviation executives, experts and exhibitors from across the globe to network, share information and forge a common vision for the future businesses of African Airports.

The 53rd ACI Africa Board meeting and regional conference and exhibition presented a platform for industry experts to come together and explore the challenges faced by the continent and find solutions that would boost the economic growth of Africa.
